The Mediterranean

Bespoke textile work on the Côte d’Azur — from Menton to Saint-Tropez

La Couverta works along the entire Côte d’Azur: from Menton via Monaco, Nice, Antibes and Cannes to Saint-Tropez — for villas with gardens, apartments on the coast and yachts in the harbours. Measuring, toile fitting and final fitting take place on site; we bundle appointments along the coast on one journey. Everything is made in the Hamburg atelier; lead time is usually six to ten weeks.

The Mediterranean

One coast, one way of working

The Côte d’Azur is not a city but a chain of places with characters of their own: quiet Menton on the Italian border, dense Monaco, luminous Nice, the capes and bays in between, Cannes with its festivals, Saint-Tropez with the peninsula. What connects them is a way of life between house, garden and water — and that is exactly what we work for.

We look after the coast from Hamburg, with regular journeys on which we bundle the appointments. Measuring and toile fitting take place on site — in the villa, in the apartment, on board. Everything is made in the atelier in Hamburg; the final fitting on site is done in person. The page Process describes the full way.

The logistics behind it are simple: we travel the coast in one run — from Menton westwards to Saint-Tropez — and align the appointments so that measurings and fittings can lie on the same journey. For our clients that means: no special tour for a single chair, but an appointment that fits the course of the season.

The villas

Houses with gardens, rooms with light

The villas of the coast — in Cap d’Antibes, Èze, La Californie — live between inside and outside. Tall rooms open onto terraces; gardens carry seats under pines and olives. Two worlds of fabric suit this: indoors pale, lightfast linens and cottons, outdoors solution-dyed outdoor fabrics that stand up to sun and salt.

For the interiors we make bespoke slipcovers, curtains for tall windows and table linen for long tables under the open sky. For outdoors: bench pads, lounger pads and cushions made to measure, with protective covers for the months in which the house rests.

The gardens of the coast are often the real dining rooms: the table stands under the plane tree or the olive, the summer stretches into September, and the wind from the hills calls for cloths with weight. We make table linen for outdoors with the same standards as for the salon — linen with drawn-thread hem, overhangs that suit the table, napkins that stay put in the wind.

House and ship

One signature for both shores

Many clients on the coast live on two sides of the gangway: the villa in the garden, the ship in the harbour. We make for both — on board with berth linen cut to the hull, salon cushions and Textile Passport; ashore with slipcovers, table linen and terrace textiles. Patterns and fabrics lie in one archive; the signature is the same. And anyone spending the summer further west will find us on Mallorca.

What counts in the end is the same question as everywhere: does the piece fit, and does it last? We answer with measuring at the original, a toile fitting before the first cut and a final fitting on site at which we are present ourselves — not with promises but with a traceable way of working. Lead time is usually six to ten weeks; the price follows the first conversation as a fixed quote, calculated by fabric and workmanship.

Questions and answers

Frequently asked questions

In which places on the Côte d’Azur do you work?

Along the entire coast: Menton, Monaco, Èze, Nice, Cap d’Antibes, Cannes, Théoule-sur-Mer and Saint-Tropez with the peninsula. Plus the hinterland — Mougins, Valbonne, Grasse. We bundle appointments on one journey, so that even individual commissions are sensible to reach.

How does a commission work if we do not live on site?

Many of our clients on the coast live elsewhere. We hold the first conversation by phone or during one of your stays; measuring and final fitting are coordinated with the person who looks after the house. The Textile Passport documents every piece, so that care is clear even in your absence.

Do you work for house and yacht in the same signature?

Yes, and on the coast that is the most frequent reason for working with us: the villa in Cap d’Antibes and the ship in Port Canto receive textiles from one hand — same fabric quality, same detail work, one archive for both.

Which fabrics suit the Mediterranean climate?

Indoors: pale, lightfast weaves — Belgian linen, piece-dyed fabrics with high lightfastness values. Outdoors: solution-dyed outdoor weaves that stand up to sun, salt and chlorine, with quick-drying fillings. On board: on request fabrics certified to the IMO FTP Code.

When is the best time for a measuring on the coast?

The off-season — October to April — is ideal for measuring and toile fitting: the houses are quiet, the harbours accessible. We plan final fittings so that they lie before the season begins. Around the yacht shows in Cannes and Monaco we are on site as well.
