Motorhome and Campervan Textiles Made to Measure

La Couverta makes bespoke textiles for motorhomes and campervans in Hamburg: curtains and blackout blinds for slopes and curves, seat cushion covers as loose covers, bed linen for rear and overcab beds. Measuring is done on the vehicle in Hamburg or from a template with a video check; where it makes sense, a toile fitting on the vehicle follows. Production usually takes six to ten weeks — every piece is handed over with a Textile Passport and remains reorderable through the pattern archive.

Why bespoke

Why off-the-shelf textiles do not fit

A motorhome is a room of nothing but special measures: the windscreen slopes away, the side windows sit in the curve of the bodywork, the overcab hangs above the cab, the drop-down bed lowers from the ceiling. Standard sizes from the accessories trade end in compromises — curtains that fail at the light gap, covers that slip on the bench, sheets that crease in the rear bed.

We sew to the geometry of your vehicle: curtains that follow the slope of the screen, blackout that closes the light gap, covers that take up the contour of the upholstery. What is a matter of course in a house — fabric that falls as it should fall — counts doubly in a vehicle, where every centimetre counts twice.

What we make

From the curtain to the bed linen

Bespoke motorhome curtains are made by us for every window in the body: for the slope of the windscreen, the side windows of the living area, the division between cab and living space. This includes the blackout for the night — densely worked so that neither street lamp nor midsummer sun reaches the sleeping area. How a panel should hang and fall is shown on the Curtains page.

The seating group receives removable covers made to measure — worked as a loose cover, with zips and seams that take up the line of the upholstery. The principle is the same as with covers for sofas and armchairs in the house, only cut to the measure of the vehicle.

For the rear bed, the overcab and the drop-down bed we make bed linen to the measure of the lying surface: fitted sheets that sit at the curve of the bodywork, covers and duvets in special sizes. The qualities correspond to those of our bed line under La Chambre — washed linen and fine cotton, simply on wheels.

Material

Lightfast, washable, light

Life in a vehicle places three demands on the fabric. The first is light: behind glass and under the open sky, an ordinary fabric fades within two seasons. We work with fabrics whose lightfastness is woven for exactly this strain.

The second is care: on the road, what counts is what is machine-washable and quickly dry again. The third is weight — in a vehicle every gram counts, and we choose qualities that are dense yet light. All fabrics with origin and care can be found on the Materials page.

Process

Measuring on the vehicle — or from a template

We take the measurements on the vehicle — in Hamburg and the surrounding area gladly where your motorhome stands. If the vehicle is further away, we work from a template: you receive a guide for tracing the profiles and windows, and we check the measurements together in a video call afterwards.

Where the shape demands it — the seating group with its radii, the overcab above the cab — the toile fitting follows on the vehicle: a first cut in unbleached calico, fitted on the original before the actual fabric is cut. The handover comes with a Textile Passport; the pattern and fabric of every piece stay in the pattern archive, and the signature seam in brass yarn marks the work of the atelier. What the path from the first meeting to the final fitting on site looks like in detail is described on the Process page.

Land instead of water

The boundary to on board

Motorhome and yacht share the task: textiles for a room that moves, in special measures, from fabrics that tolerate light and life on the road. They differ in the rulebook — on board, the fire-safety requirements of the IMO FTP Code apply; on the road they are not prescribed.

The care is the same: measuring on the original, a toile fitting where it makes sense, documented measures in the pattern archive. What we make for yachts and boats — from berth bed linen to deck upholstery — is described on the Yachts page. If your home has wheels instead of a berth, you are in the right place here.

Questions and answers

Frequently asked questions

What do bespoke motorhome curtains cost?

Every piece is priced according to fabric and workmanship. You receive a fixed quote after the first meeting.

Do you measure the vehicle on site?

Yes. We take the measurements on the vehicle — in Hamburg and the surrounding area gladly at your pitch, in the hall or at your home. If the vehicle is further away, we work from a template: you receive a guide for tracing profiles and windows, and we check the measurements together in a video call afterwards.

Are the fabrics suited to the southern European summer?

Yes. We work with lightfast fabrics whose colour holds even under strong sunlight, and with qualities that can be washed at 40 degrees and dry quickly. For the blackout we carry dense weaves that stay light nevertheless — in a vehicle every gram counts.

Do you also sew covers for the seating group?

Yes. The seat cushions and pads of the dinette receive removable covers made to measure — worked as loose covers, with zips, washable and guided so that the seams take up the line of the seating group. Foam cores and upholstery work are made together with our partner workshops.

Do you make bed linen for overcab and rear beds?

Yes. Beds in a vehicle are rarely rectangular — they follow the bodywork. We make fitted sheets, covers and duvets exactly to the measure of the lying surface, measured on the vehicle or from a template. Measurements and pattern stay in the pattern archive; a replacement needs no new appointment.
